Toxic Tampons... what?!?

Okay ladies...

So the other day I was going through all the current items I own and reading the ingredient listed.  Well, I was in the bathroom trying to read the ingredients on the boxes of my feminine hygiene products and I could not find the ingredients anywhere... hmm... I wonder why?

I did not think too much of it, but knew that when I got a free moment I would do some research and see what I could find.  Well, low and behold, tonight, while going through my saved blogs that I like to read, I clicked on one called 180 Degree Health.  The author answered my question immediately.  As soon as the blog opened I saw the title Toxic Tampons: Feminine Hygiene Alternatives.

If you are interested in reading more, I have added the link.  Also, make sure you watch the video that she included because it is quite interesting and will really make you think.

Let me know your thoughts on this after you read her blog and watch the video.  Do any of you have any alternatives that you use and would recommend?

  1. You can use the cup, if you don't mind rinsing and reusing something that has been inside of you. It collects blood, etc. I also have a friend who uses reusable rags instead of pads. Sounds like pre-historic option to me, but definitely avoids all toxic products.

    1. Gee, which friend uses reusable pads? LOL. Pre-historic? How is that any different than using reusable cloth diapers for your baby???? :-p Disposable pads are made from materials from the petroleum industry- polypropylene and polyethylene. Both can cause cancer and/or lead to infertility. :(

Reusable items are not only safe for your body but also save you tons of money over the years and are completely sustainable. Ever since I switched to the cup and reusable cotton pads, I have felt great about it and have no complaints!

  3. By the way, Brie, I am happy you are reading ingredients and thinking about your health and what you put in/on your body. :) Sounds like me!

I use the Diva Cup and Glad Rags. Glad rags can feel kinda bulky though so I am looking at trying LunaPads.
